A love for children’s literature and the joys of childhood reading inspired Jen’s decision to become an educator. Now those passions have transformed into a fascination with the learning process. Mindful of the complex journey that each child must take to become a competent reader and writer, her work is marked by an intense focus on the learning gains that fuel student success.
Jen received a Masters degree in Language and Literacy from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She spent 7 years as a public school teacher working as a classroom instructor, reading specialist, and teacher trainer in Boston and Miami. In 2005 she founded The Literacy Lift. Drawing on her classroom experiences, she realized the need for a more in-depth approach to overcoming reading and writing challenges. Schools strive to provide needed services. Going a step further, the Literacy Lift model was designed to focus on long lasting solutions.
Jen’s sense of adventure has shaped her personal life. She backpacked around the world for a year spending time in 12 different countries. Learning to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef, skydiving in New Zealand, and riding elephants in Thailand were only some of her wonderful worldwide adventures. Here at home Jen’s many hobbies include cycling, kayaking, and enjoying the great outdoors. She has completed 3 half marathons, 1 triathlon, 1 century (100 mile) bike ride, and 2 metric century (67 mile) bike rides. Despite her accomplishments, she is not fearless. She is still terrified of snakes, scorpions, and cockroaches.
