Reading tutorials are uniquely designed for each student based on need.  Areas for targeted instruction may include:

  • Phonemic Awareness

In The Literacy Lift writing classes, students are encouraged to live and think like writers.  Students are taken through all steps of the writing process, including:

  • Collecting and generating ideas

  • Drafting an organized plan – a road map to successful writing

  • Crafting a creative introduction

  • Writing meaningful, well-developed paragraphs

  • Incorporating imaginative, unique vocabulary

  • Revising to improve the quality of writing

  • Editing to abide the rules of writing

  • Handwriting development (correct letter formation)

  • Spelling strategies

Because standardized, multiple choice tests are so prevalent in today’s schools, it is important for students to master basic test taking skills.  With these test-taking skills, students can become highly effective test takers.

  • Understanding test design

  • Understanding test questions and test vocabulary

  • Understanding the most effective strategies for determining the correct answer


The Literacy Lift is located near downtown St. Petersburg, Florida in the heart of the Old Northeast neighborhood. 


Classes can be scheduled to best meet the needs of the student and parents.  Choices include:

  • Private one-to-one reading, writing, or test prep instruction

  • Online reading instruction (via Skype)

  • Small group writing tutorials


Instruction is provided to students from Kindergarten through Grade 5.


Strong partnerships are vital to a child’s success. Educating parents about the nature of learning issues is a top priority. Working collaboratively with teachers, administrators and other professionals to improve student performance is all part of The Literacy Lift approach.
